Giving

Why give?
How much to give?
Give now!

Don't you want to use your money to help change the world?

To fund social change? Haven't you always wished you could find an organization you can trust, to channel your dollars in the most strategic way possible? Although we receive some funding from other sources, most of our financial support comes from individual donors. All kinds of people give to Chinook for all kinds of reasons. Here are just a few of the reasons we've heard over the years:

  • "Chinook gives me the most bang for my buck. I see the progressive non-profit sector on a scale. On one end there are non-profits who are helping people to get by within an oppressive system. On the other end are non-profits who are trying to change those systems permanently. It is important to me to help people, and so I do support social service nonprofits. But I also believe that we progressives must start giving more to organizations working on changing systems. This is why the right-wing is so much more powerful than we are - they are using their money strategically! When I give to Chinook, I know my limited resources will be used as effectively and strategically as possible."

  • "I want my son to grow up in a world where he is appreciated for his talents and not harmed by a racist society that feels threatened by black males. My dream is a world that is free of racism and sexism and full of freedom and hope. Giving to Chinook helps me feel I am doing my small part to attain that dream."

  • "Chinook's Grantmaking Committee finds the most cutting-edge change organizations in the state! How would I ever find the time to research all the myriad non-profits out there? I can trust Chinook to find and support the best.

  • "I give because Chinook is the only place where I can be all of who I am instead of just a part of who I am."

  • "Chinook doesn't treat me like an ATM! They want more of me than my money, and they hold me accountable just like everyone else. Often, when I give to an organization, I can control where it goes and how people use it. But when I give to Chinook, I give that power away, too. I allow the Grantmaking Committee, which is represented by and accountable to the communities it serves, to make the funding decisions. This turns on its head the power-over dynamics of traditional philanthropy. By giving to Chinook, we all are empowered."

Have faith in us, stretch a little!

People give at all kinds of levels, and we value each and every donation, whether it is $20 or $20,000. When you think about how much you want to give, please keep in mind that by giving to Chinook, you are giving to between 15 and 20 organizations. That is how many groups Chinook funds every year. If you have faith in us, we invite you to stretch a little. Consider adding a zero to what you normally give, or making a regular monthly contribution. Please consider making Chinook your number one social change organization.

Right now, all new and increased gifts will be matched by the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado!

Chinook would like to thank the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado for their ongoing support of our outreach to communities of color.
